Ocós is a municipality of the department of San Marcos in the south-western region of the Republic of Guatemala. The municipality is a very important region in tourism and export of natural resources. After the Independence of Central America in 1821, the Sanjón de Ocoz - as it was known at that time - was assigned to the circuit of Retalhuleu in District No.11 for the administration of justice through jury trials when the State of Guatemala was defined in 1825.
