Chat in Santa Catarina Pinula

Santa Catarina Pinula is a municipality in the department of Guatemala located 15 kilometers from the capital city and is part of the Great Southern City Commonwealth. It borders to the north with Guatemala City, to the east with the municipalities of San José Pinula and Fraijanes, to the south with the municipalities of Fraijanes and Villa Canales and to the west with Villa Canales and Guatemala City. During the colonial era it was a doctrine of the Dominican friars depending on the convent of Amatitlán and after the Independence of Central America in 1821 it became part of the department of Guatemala / Escuintla, and in 1839 it was assigned to the department of Guatemala.

With the expansion of Guatemala City in the late twentieth century the town was absorbed by the residential area known as "Carretera a El Salvador", which is characterized by the presence of several neighborhoods of families with high purchasing power, although intermingled with the original neighborhoods of the municipality. On October 1,2015 at night and after heavy rains that took several days, a hill collapsed adjacent to the village of El Cambray II, causing more than two hundred and fifty deaths. In the Puerta Parada village there is an archaeological site of the same name that belongs to the Preclassic period and was reported by the archaeologist Shook on January 25,1942. Shoock indicated that the ruins were recently sectioned by the Pan-American Highway and that although many had lost through centuries of cultivation, there were about ten mounds around two rectangular squares.
