Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight is a unitary authority and the largest island in England with 348 km² located on the south coast facing the city of Southampton. It is separated from Britain by a strait known as Solent. It is colloquially known as "La Isla" because of its inhabitants. Its population in 2008 was approximately 140,000 inhabitants. The Isle of Wight is the only unitary district in England that has county status. It has a single representative in Parliament.
