The heroic city of Zacatecas, is the capital city of the Mexican state of Zacatecas, founded on September 8,1546 from the discovery of the rich silver mines by Juan de Tolosa. In 1548 it is called Real de Minas de Nuestra Senora de los Zacatecas. Its mineral wealth gave strong income to the Spanish Crown, which made it possible for it to receive the title of City of Our Lady of the Zacatecas. At the beginning of the 20th century, the city was the scene of what is considered the most important battle of the Mexican Revolution: the taking of Zacatecas, fought on June 23,1914, when the forces of Francisco Villa took the city in a day fighting against the army of Victoriano Huerta and to a large extent defined the destiny of the country.

The city remained after the Revolution with half the inhabitants it had. The population census of 1910 indicated that there were 25,900. The following one, from 1920, indicated that there were 15,462, also linked to the decline of mining, the depopulation of the city was more noticeable, on June 23,2010 it was named Heroic City by the LX Legislature of the Legislative Power of the State of Zacatecas, and the City Council published the solemn side on November 10 of that same year.

The city is located in the center-south of the state, the region where most of the commerce and industry of the state is centered, and the city of Guadalupe, which is located within the historic commercial route called Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, inscribed in the List of World Heritage by UNESCO, shares the metropolitan area. Its historical center is recognized for its preservation and conservation of historic buildings and, thanks to its historical heritage, its traditions and festivals make it a great tourist content. In 1993, its historic center was named by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity, due to its urban layout, architectural wealth and its history. Its representative monuments are the Cathedral of Zacatecas, considered one of the most valuable colonial treasures of the country, for its architectural work in carved quarry, whose exterior color changes from pale pink to burned orange, according to the position of the sun.

Due to its historical development, the inhabitants of the city of Zacatecas hold various festivals throughout the year, and have cultural celebrations and traditions, among which the Zacatecas Cultural Festival, the Zacatecas International Folklore Festival, the Bracho Morismas, the representation of battles between Moors and Christians, a tradition that has managed to gather between 10,000 and 12,000 participants and around 60,000 spectators.
