Santo Tomás La Unión is a municipality in the department of Suchitepéquez in the Republic of Guatemala, which is located 160 km from Guatemala City, on the south coast of that Central American country. It was originally called Santo Tomás Perdido by the legend of an image of Santo Tomás that had been lost of its catholic temple in the first years of the Spanish colony.

From that moment, Santo Tomás Perdido became part of the department of Totonicapán, until it was awarded to the jurisdiction of the department of Suchitepéquez by the Constitutive Act of Guatemala promulgated in 1879 by the government of the General Justo Rufino Barrios.
In 1905 it happened to be a village of the municipality of Zunil in the department of Quetzaltenango, until finally it recovered the category of municipality of Suchitepéquez in 1944, already with the name of Santo Tomás La Unión.
