Huayacocotla is a municipality belonging to the north of the Mexican state of Veracruz, it is located in the so-called Huasteca Baja, and forms part of the Sierra Madre Oriental, at an altitude of 2,140 meters above sea level. Its head is the town of Huayacocotla. It has a population of 18,093 inhabitants, according to the XII General Census of Population and Housing of the INEGI of 2000. By decree number twenty six of date twenty-seven of May of 1881 the town of Huayacocotla acquired the category of Villa. The commerce and in small scale the livestock of lanar and swine classes were support of the economy of this municipality. In 1877 the head of the canton of Chicontepec, moved to Huayacocotla.
