Santa María Huatulco, known simply as Huatulco, is one of the 570 municipalities that make up the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It belongs to the district of Pochutla, within the coastal region. It was founded approximately 480 years ago and has a population of 38,629 inhabitants. On January 8,2019, he celebrated the 480th anniversary of his title as a people. The municipality of Santa María Huatulco is located approximately five hours from the state capital. Maguey: this beach of approximately 500 meters in length and 25 to 50 meters wide is very visited due to the tranquility of its waters, the water is crystal clear with green and blue tones, and it has a temperate temperature. Organo: virgin beach of approximately 240 meters in length and 20 meters in width. Its slope is moderate, as well as its waves. Cacaluta: in Zapotec it means "black bird" or cacalote. It receives year after year different migratory birds. Chachacual: is a large ecological reserve integrated into the Huatulco National Park. It has two virgin beaches: Chachacual and La India. To date, the only access route is by sea. San Agustín: approximately 1,500 meters long and 20 to 80 meters wide, it has a white coral reef just a few meters offshore. It has two beaches: San Agustín and Cacalutilla.

Huatulco Bays has a high potential for ecotourism, include in this type of activities the tour to the Llano Grande Waterfalls or the magical Copalitilla, the bicycle tour, the abseiling, the zip line, the horseback tour, the temazcal maya Santa Cruz, bird watching, et cetera. Community tourism activities have also been carried out for some years, which consist of getting to know the community life of the surroundings of the tourist development. Bahías de Huatulco also has a Mariposario called Yeé Lo Beé of the Zapotec language which in Spanish means "Flor del Cielo" and is located about 7 minutes from the hotel zone. It is considered the largest butterfly in Mexico, has thirty-three different species of butterflies and has an exhibition area of ​​998.28 m². In winter season in the water you can find small transparent jellyfish, they sting a bit but are bearable.

It is the breeding season because they are found in all the bays, although in those that have a school of fish there is a little more for the live food that exists in these waters.
