Oracabessa is a small town in the parish Saint Mary along a bay on the north coast of Jamaica, between Port Maria and Ocho Rios. Columbus entered the bay in 1502. The coast was then inhabited by Taínos and Arawaks. A small trading post was founded there by the Spaniards. This was named Oracabessa. The settlement was taken over by the British in 1655 after they had conquered the island from the Spaniards. On the east side of Oracabessa there are a number of large villas, including Goldeneye, Golden Clouds and Firefly Estate. Goldeneye was from 1948 to 1964 the home of Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond books. Fleming invented the James Bond character here.
