Arroyo del Ojanco is a Spanish municipality in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, belonging to the region of Sierra de Segura. According to INE sources, in 2016 it had 2,354 inhabitants. It limits with the terms of Segura de la Sierra, Puente de Génave, Beas de Segura and Chiclana de Segura. It is located at the entrance of the Natural Park of the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, and its municipal area is crossed by the Guadalimar River. He managed the segregation of Beas de Segura and its constitution as an independent municipality on January 24,2001, after a long judicial process. This process began with a file processed by the Council of Ministers on June 4,1953, which denied segregation by decree.
On November 3,1958, another petition was made to the Minister of the Interior, who was also denied by decree on September 10,1959, with a subsequent appeal before the Supreme Court, which was decided on November 25,1961. In September 1983, forms the Pro-Segregation Commission, which presents in June 1984 a file in the City of Beas de Segura, which refers to the Junta de Andalucía. The Junta de Andalucía is administratively silent until in 1991 a dispute is filed before the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia, which on April 5,1993 resolves in favor of segregation. However, it is suspended pending appeal until the Supreme Court ruling of January 18,2001. It has the Fuentebuena Olive Tree in its municipal area, a tree declared a Natural Monument by the Junta de Andalucía and which is inscribed in the Guinness Book of the Records.
