Pyin U Lwin or Pyin Oo Lwin, formerly Maymyo, is a tourist town in the interior of Burma, located about 67 kilometers east of Mandalay, and at an altitude of 1070 meters. It was initially a Shan village located between Naungcho and Mandalay, on the road that links Lashio to Mandalay. During the British colonial occupation, in 1896, they enhanced it as a recreational city, due to its cool mountainous climate, especially during the months of warmer temperatures.
