Motul
Motul is a municipality in the state of Yucatan, Mexico, located in the northern central region, about 40 km. To the east of Mérida, the capital of the state. Motul, name of the municipality and its head, has no exact data of its foundation, although it dates from the eleventh century. After the conquest of Yucatan an encomienda was established in Motul, that of Don Francisco de Bracamonte, in 1581. The development of the municipal region begins properly in 1821, when Yucatan became independent from Spain and began in 1850, the big henequen industry. The prehispanic population belonged to the chiefdom of Keh Pech.
