Magdalena Apasco is one of the 570 municipalities in which the state of Oaxaca in Mexico is divided. Its location is 26 km northwest of the state capital, 40 minutes by car, on Highway 190. It is located in the center of the state mentioned above. The municipal cabatery is located in Magdalena Apasco and has 7,522 inhabitants. Belongs to the Valles Centrales Region and is the 45th municipality of Oaxaca. With a semi-dry climate. It has an area of 29.34 km².
The origin of the name of the municipality is in first place in honor of Santa María Magdalena of the Catholic religion, and in second place "Apasco" comes from the Apazantli language, meaning large pot of clay in the shape of a casserole. It is attributed the name of Apasco, since in 1700, at the beginning of the municipality, parts or clay pots were made. With the arrival of the Spaniards it was granted the name Magdalena Apasco. The main festive dates for Magdalena Apasco are the fourth Friday of Lent, the patronal feast of July 22 in honor of Santa María Magdalena and December 18 in honor of the Virgen de la Soledad.
