It is believed that it has been one of the the most deadly pandemics in the history of mankind. Many of its victims were young and healthy adults, unlike other flu epidemics that affect children, the elderly or debilitated people.
A researcher claims that the disease appeared in Haskell County, Kansas in January 1918. The Allies of the First World War called it Spanish Flu because the pandemic received more attention from the press in Spain than in the rest of the world, since that Spain was not involved in the war and therefore did not censor information about the disease. The disease was first observed in Fort Riley, Kansas, United States on March 11,1918.
