Departamento de Valle Fértil
Valle Fértil is a department of the province of San Juan, located in the extreme east of the province, almost to the center west of Argentina. Its area of 6977 km2, which represents 7% of the provincial total, places it in fifth place in terms of extension. Unlike other departments of the province that have the typical characteristics of arid Andean environment, the region is characterized by a mountain environment of abundant vegetation and temperate climate. In the Valle Fertil department, there is the Ischigualasto Provincial Park, also known as Valle de la Luna, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000. The Valle Fertil Multiple Use Reserve covers part of the area of the central zone from the Department.
