Tibás is a canton located in the western area of the province of San José, in Costa Rica, and belonging to the Greater Metropolitan Area. Bordered with the canton of Santo Domingo in the north, with the canton with the canton of San José in the west and southwest, with the canton of Goicoechea in the southeast and with the canton of Moravia in the east, and has a territorial extension of 8.15 km², its head is the district of San Juan, with a city category. The canton has 82 216 inhabitants, according to the latest demographic projection of INEC.
The canton is characterized for being the most densely populated of the country and one of the smallest, only surpassing in size the Heredian cantons of Flores and San Pablo. It is, together with the central canton of San José, the only ones in Costa Rica with the totality of its surface considered as an urban population. The canton is also where the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium is located.
