Samtskhe-Javakheti

The region of Samtsje-Yavajeti is one of the nine administrative regions in which Georgia is organized since 1996, which largely corresponds to the historical and geographical region formerly called Mesjeti. It is located in the south of the country and borders Turkey and Armenia. It comprises a territory of 6413 km² and had a population of 213 700 inhabitants in 2014. The capital is Ajaltsije. The region is subdivided into six administrative districts: Ajaltsije, Adigueni, Aspindza, Bordshomi, Ajalkalaki and Ninotsminda. It borders the Georgian regions of Guria and Imerecia, to the north. With Kartli, to the northeast and east. With the autonomous republic of Ayaria to the west. And with Armenia and Turkey, as already said, to the south.
