Marakwet District was a district in Kenya's Rift Valley Province. It was created in 1994 by division of the former district of Elgeyo-Marakwet, the other party becoming Keiyo District. The chief town was Kapsowar. The 140,629 inhabitants belonged mainly to a Kalenjin tribe, the Marakwet. In 2009, it was also divided in two to form the districts of Marakwet East and Marakwet West. Since 2010, united with the former Keiyo District, these two districts constitute the county of Elgeyo-Marakwet, one of Kenya's 47 counties created by the new Constitution.
