Carolina is a municipality located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico, east of the capital, San Juan, and west of Trujillo Alto. It is considered to belong to the metropolitan area of San Juan, highly industrialized and populated. The town is known as "Land of Giants." The municipality had in 1986,85 educational institutions, four of them of higher education, 4 health facilities. Postal and telephone services, radio and television stations, international airport and first and second order roads. One of the main tourist centers of the country is located in the sector of Isla Verde, with the beach of that name, where large and modern hotels are located.
Other places of interest are the Boca de Cangrejos, the Piñones Forest and the La Torrecilla, Piñones and San José lagoons. Its festivities are celebrated on May 30, the day of San Fernando.
