Retalhuleu

Retalhuleu is a city and departmental capital of the homonymous department, in the Republic of Guatemala. Its municipal head is the town of the same name. It is a rich livestock area. The date of their employer fair is celebrated from December 2 to 12 in honor of the Virgen de la Concepción, in which religious, cultural, sports events, livestock exhibitions, bullfights and horse races are held. After the Independence of Central America in 1821, Retalhuleu was part of the Mazatenango Circuit in District No.11 for the administration of justice, and later formed part of the ephemeral State of Los Altos that was created by the Liberal Creoles in 1838.

This state was recovered by force and reinstated to the State of Guatemala by the conservative mestizo general Rafael Carrera in 1840.
