Goodlands is a town in the Republic of Mauritius located north-northeast of its main island, Mauritius. It is located inland to the west of Amber Island and in doing so falls within the Rivière du Rempart district. Its population was 20,712 in 2011. The place takes its name in the 1830s when James Edward Arbuthenot establishes a sugar factory here. Later, other sugar factories are built with their sugar cane fields. Most close from the middle of the twentieth century with the centralization of sugar production. The last one, Saint-Antoine, closed in 1994. In 1982, Goodlands had 12,592 inhabitants, the population began to grow quickly placing Goodlands just after Triolet in number of inhabitants in the north of the island.
Goodlands is served by the Catholic parish Marie-Reine with its chapel Sainte-Claire. There is also a Protestant place of worship, a mosque and two Hindu temples: Siva Soopramaniar Kovil and Kali Maiya. The teaching is represented by the Doorgachurn Hurry Government School. At the edge of the high road is the Belmont Shopping Center. It was in Goodlands that in 1982 the famous historic model boat factory, sold all over the world, was opened.
