John Latham was a British doctor, naturalist and writer. Latham was described as the grandfather of Australian ornithologists. It was he who studied most of the birds sent to England and who classified them. Son of a surgeon, Latham practiced medicine in Dartford, Kent County, where he described the Rabilarga warbler. He retired in 1796 and settled in Hampshire.
