José Natividad Macías Castorena. He studied at the Seminary of León and at the National Preparatory School, as well as at the National School of Jurisprudence where he obtained the title of lawyer in 1894. He was a teacher at the School of Jurisprudence of Guanajuato. At the beginning of the 20th century he moved to Mexico City, to practice law, at the invitation of President Porfirio Díaz, after having defeated him in a civil business, defending Don Manuel Urquiza, a prominent Queretaro landowner. He was the owner of the hacienda of Chichimequillas, in the municipality of Silao, in Guanajuato. He gave the land to make the temple to Cristo Rey in Cerro del Cubilete.
Federal Deputy in the last porfirista legislature, where he became friends with Venustiano Carranza. He returned to be deputy in the XXVI legislature, by the Anti-Relection Party. He was imprisoned in Lecumberri when said legislature was dissolved by Victoriano Huerta. He joined the constitutionalism, occupying for the first time the Rector of the National University. In Veracrúz, the "First Constitutionalist Chief", Venustiano Carranza entrusted him to elaborate the project of Reform to the Mexican Constitution, whose project served the Constituent of Querétaro to draft the Political Constitution of 1917 was elected deputy constituent by the State of Guanajuato. He led in Querétaro along with Luis Manuel Rojas and Félix F. Palavicini to the Carranza group. He highlighted his participation in the drafting of article 123 of the new constitution.
During his first rectorship at the head of the University, he undertook the task of reviewing the budget of the institution, concluding, on March 5,1916, that higher education in faculties and schools out of pay and at a rate of five pesos per month per student. He was head of the University department and of the Fine Arts. In 1917 he assumed again the Rectory of the National University, highlighting during his tenure the formation of research laboratories. In 1920, he accompanied President Carranza on his escape to Veracrúz, separating from him in the community of Aljibes, where the convoy Carrancista was attacked by the Obregonist forces. He was taken prisoner and imprisoned again in Lecumberri. After months of captivity, he was released on condition that he leave the country. He traveled through Europe, and later settled in San Antonio, Texas, and then returned to the country. He chaired the Association of Constituent Deputies. He died in the year of 1948.
