Rengo is a capital city and commune of the same, located in the Region of Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, within the Province of Cachapoal, in the central zone of Chile. It is located 28 km south of Rancagua and 114 km south of the capital of the Republic, Santiago de Chile. It limits to the north with the commune of Requínoa. To the west with Quinta de Tilcoco. To the southwest with Malloa. To the south with San Fernando and to the east with Machalí. It was founded in November 1692 by Tomás Marín de Poveda, with the name of Clarillo River Village.

In 2002, the district of Rengo had an area of ​​591.5 km2 and a population of 56 188 inhabitants, according to the INE, which makes it the second most populated district in the province, and the third at the regional level. Integra together with the communes of Codegua, Coinco, Coltauco, Doñihue, Graneros, Malloa, Machalí, Mostazal, Olivar, Quinta de Tilcoco, Rancagua and Requínoa the Electoral District No.15 and belongs to the IX Senatorial Circumscription.
