Matehuala is a city and municipality belonging to the state of San Luis Potosí. It is located north of Mexico. Founded on July 10,1550, its name refers to the war cry of the Guachichil Indians, originally from the region. It is presumed to mean a kind of threat or warning: "Do not come!" Professor Cerritence Angel Veral would call it the City of Camellias. Matehuala is the fourth city in importance in the state in terms of population after the Metropolitan Area of San Luis Potosi, Ciudad Valles and Rioverde zm.
