Ciudad del Maíz
Ciudad del Maíz is one of the 58 municipalities that constitute the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí. It is located northwest of the state and approximately 145 km from the city of San Luis Potosí. It has a territorial extension of 3114.1 km². According to the II Population and Housing Count of 2005, the municipality has 29 855 inhabitants, of which 14 658 are men and 14 658 are women. It was founded in 1617 by Fray Juan Bautista de Mollinedo. Previously, the native inhabitants of pame origin gave it the name of M'Pu 'N'Tjua, which means' Valle del Maíz'.
