Uriangato is one of the 46 municipalities in the state of Guanajuato, located on the border between the states of Guanajuato and Michoacán in the Central West region of Mexico. The city of Uriangato is geographically linked to the cities of Moroleón and Yuriria, these three form a metropolitan area since October 2010, the Moroleón-Uriangato-Yuriria Metropolitan Area is the 75th largest city in the country and the 5th It is also the most populated state of Guanajuato, it is also the 52nd largest metropolitan area in Mexico, it should be mentioned that Uriangato is urbanized almost in its entirety, so that its rural population represents less than 10% of its total population.
According to the INEGI intercensal survey conducted in 2015, the population of the municipality of Uriangato is 62,761 inhabitants, however the population of the three municipalities that make up the Moroleón-Uriangato-Yuriria Metropolitan Area is 182,901 inhabitants.
