The City and County of Honolulu is a county located in the United States, in the state of Hawaii. It is also the combined municipal and cultural entity of the urban district of Honolulu and the rest of the island of Oahu in the US state of Hawaii, as prescribed by the City Charter approved in 1907 and accepted by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Hawaii. It acts as a public corporation that manages various traditional aspects of municipal public affairs management, mainly in the American way. The city and county encompass the entire island of Oahu and several remote minor islands, including all the islands of northwest Hawaii.
Due to this rarity, Honolulu is sometimes considered the largest city in the world. In the 2000 Census, the population of the city and county was 876,156 inhabitants, which would make it the 12th largest municipality in the United States.
