Orange County

Orange County is an American county belonging to the state of California, located south of the state and south of Los Angeles. It is near the city of Los Angeles in the north, and the city of San Diego and the border with Mexico in Tijuana in the south. Its county seat is the city of Santa Ana and the population of the county in the 2010 census was 3 010 232 inhabitants, becoming the third most populated county in California, after the county of Los Angeles and San Diego. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the population of the county in 2012 was 3 090 132 inhabitants, representing an increase of 2.7% compared to 2010.

Like almost the entire coastal strip of California, it was conquered by the Spanish, and is also one of the richest counties in the US For centuries, the 800-square-mile region known as Orange County was populated by waves of colonizers who, delighted with what they saw, they founded their roots there. The influx began with native Amerindians who lived off fishing and harvests. The Spanish explorers of the sixteenth century and the missionaries of the seventeenth century were the next to arrive, followed by the ranchers of the eighteenth century, the petroleum magnates of the nineteenth century and the soldiers of the Second World War, who trained here and returned later. The yuppies emigrating to Los Angeles in search of a healthier existence were responsible for the most recent influx to the county. Unlike other population centers, Orange County residents adopted their name as a result of their cultural identity, while most of the population centers in the United States tend to identify with a large city.

In Orange County there is no urban center defined as in other areas where there is a dominant municipal entity. The county is almost uniformly peripheral, except for some old areas such as the center of Santa Ana. Five cities of the county exceed 170,000 inhabitants.
