City of Martinsville
Martinsville, founded in 1957, is one of the 39 independent cities in the US state of Virginia. In the year 2007, the city had a population of 15,416 inhabitants and a population density of 543.1 people per km². For census purposes, the Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the City of Martinsville with Henry County. Martinsville is also part of the micropolitan area of Martinsville.6 miles from the town is Martinsville Speedway, a road course that hosts NASCAR Cup races since 1949.
