Sumner County, founded in 1870, is one of 105 counties in the US state of Kansas. In the year 2005, the county had a population of 24,797 inhabitants and a population density of 8 people per km². The county seat is Wellington. The county is named after the Massachusetts Senate Charles Sumner. The county is part of the Wichita metropolitan area.
