Douglas County
Douglas County is a county in the US state of Kansas. In the 2000 census the county had a population of 99,962 inhabitants. It is part of the Lawrence metropolitan area. The county seat is Lawrence The county was founded on August 25,1855 and was named in honor of Stephen A. Douglas, an Illinois senator and presidential candidate in the 1860 elections. The main campus of the University Kansas is within the county.
