Jefferson County
Jefferson County, founded in 1819, is one of 102 counties in the US state of Illinois. In the year 2000, the county had a population of 40,045 inhabitants and a population density of 27 people per km². The county seat is Mount Vernon, and the county receives its name in honor of Thomas Jefferson.
