Casanare

Casanare is one of the thirty-two departments that, together with Bogotá, Distrito Capital, form the Republic of Colombia. Its capital is Yopal. It is located in the Orinoquía region, bounded on the north by Arauca, on the east by Vichada, on the south by Meta, on the west by Cundinamarca and on the northwest by Boyacá. With 44 490 km² it is the tenth largest department -behind Amazonas, Vichada, Caquetá, Meta, Guainía, Antioquia, Vaupés, Guaviare and Chocó- and with 8 hab / km², the seventh least densely populated, ahead of Caquetá, Guaviare, Vaupés, Amazonas, Vichada and Guainía, the least densely populated.

The name of the department comes from the Sáliva word Casanari, which means "River of Black Waters." The territory of the department extends in the eastern foothills of the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes. It belongs to the region of the Eastern Plains with all the characteristics that identify it. The average height above sea level is 350 meters, with an average temperature of 26°C. The distance between the capital of the department, Yopal, and the capital of Colombia, Bogotá, is 387 km. It offers many tourist attractions and especially regarding ecotourism. There are places like the Aguaclara pipe, the Caño Arietes Ecological Park, the Upía River and the Llanero Man Museum, among many others.
