San Vicente is one of the fourteen departments that make up the Republic of El Salvador, in the Paracentral region. The capital city is San Vicente. San Vicente is the capital city of the homonymous municipality and department in El Salvador. It was founded in 1635 and became the capital of the republic in the 19th century. During the Spanish colonization, it was one of the most important towns of the Intendancy of San Salvador.
