The Mon State is a state of Burma. It is located on the northeast coast of the Andaman Sea and is bordering with Thailand. In addition, numerous islands belong to the Mon State along its 566 km of coastline. The state capital is Mawlamyaing. The majority of the population belongs to the Mon ethnic group who, unlike most Burmese, do not speak a Sinotibetan language but an Austro-Asiatic language.
