Helmand
Helmand is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the southwest of the country. The Helmand River flows through the desert region, causing irrigation. Its surface is 58,583 km², it has a population of 954,434 inhabitants. Its capital is Laškar Gāh and some major cities are Baġrān, Darwīšan, Deh Šū, Gerešk and Sangīn. Its current governor is Asadullah Wafa, from December of the 2006. In several news agencies they report the published thing in June of the 2007 according to which the valley of Helmand is the person in charge of the production of 42% of the opium of the world. This is more than the total of Burma which is the second largest production in the nation of Afghanistan.
