Tuvalu is one of the four countries that make up Polynesia, or one of the fourteen that make up Oceania. Its capital is Funafuti. It is an island country located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately halfway between Hawaii and Australia. The countries closest to Tuvalu are Kiribati, Samoa and Fiji. It consists of 4 coral reefs and 5 atolls, with a total area of 26 km² After the Vatican City and before the Republic of Nauru is the independent nation with the smallest number of inhabitants. It is also the member of the United Nations with the smallest number of inhabitants, since it only has 11 810.
It has a maximum altitude of 5 meters above sea level, being, after Maldives, the country with the lowest maximum altitude. It has a maritime tropical climate, moderated by the easterly trade winds from March to November, the remaining months with abundant rainfall and the typical vegetation is composed of palm trees. Due to climate change and the progressive rise in sea level, their land is decreasing, the beaches of these islands tend to disappear and due to the continuous typhoons, the marine waters progressively salinize the crops, it seems irremediable that the increase in the level of the Sea flood the archipelago. All these climate changes have been confirmed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who assume that the worst has not yet arrived.
Tuvalu as a member of the United Nations asks for help so that the country can survive the catastrophe that seems irreparable. It is trying to relocate its population, although moving all its inhabitants is really complicated.
